Description
This statue was originally called The Angel of Death Victorious. This angel is seated on a marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. The life-size bronze holds an extinguished torch upside-down, a symbol of life extinguished. Her wings are outstretched and she gazes straight ahead.
What makes this statue incredibly special is the how the guardian appears to be weeping black tears. You can see in the image how tears appear to pour from her eyes, dripping down onto her neck. These "tears' are actually an effect formed through the years of the aging bronze. She is sometimes called the Weeping Angel. I would say this is probably the most sought after photo when visiting Cleveland's Lakeview cemetery. Her image is quite haunting and quite beautiful at the same time
For those visiting the cemetery, this angel is located in Section 9 Lot 14 s
