Description
We spent two days at Hocking Hills last year and it was in the summer time. I'm hoping to go back again to see it in all it's Fall glory next month. I'm so hoping that there will still be colorful leaves to see! But either way, this area is just a beautiful place to visit. So many waterfalls, and I we didn't even see all of them. Perhaps if I took less time photographing them, we would have more time to visit them. The burden one carries when they love taking pictures.
Old Man's cave is located in Hocking Hills State Park located on State Route 664. The name, Old Man's Cave comes from the hermit Richard Rowe who lived in the large recess cave of the gorge. His family moved to the Ohio River Valley around 1796 from Tennessee to start a trading post. He and his two dogs traveled through Ohio along the Scioto River in search of game. On one side trip up Salt Creek, he found the Hocking Region. Rowe lived in the area for the remainder of is life and is buried beneath the ledge of the main recess cave.
